Quality and tradition - that's what WAJOS stands for with its namesake Walter Josef Oster, a traditional family winery in Ediger-Eller with a history spanning over 15 generations. Anyone who knows the Moselle knows that a very special love and passion characterizes viticulture in the steep-slope region. From this connection to ours, we have lovingly developed the winery into an entire world of enjoyment - a world that combines tradition and innovation and simply wants to make life more delicious with the combination of wine and delicatessen.
What makes a good wine? The answer: terroir. The interaction of the factors climate, region, location and of course the winemaker. If everything fits, great, individual and varied wines are created. The winemaker has no influence on the climate, region and location, but he does have influence on the quality of the wine. Only with experience, passion, creativity and personality does the wine become something special and unique. And we as a family have had this for over 1 generation, preserving our tradition and taking innovative new paths.
Our home: the region of the Lower Moselle or “Terrace Moselle”. The climate here is characterized by relatively cool summers and mild winters, which allows our vines to grow into high-quality vintages. Particularly in our steep slopes, the geological and geographical conditions have different soil conditions and climate conditions. The terraces have been lovingly created and maintained, expanded and renewed for centuries. The southern orientation of the steep slopes towards the sun is optimal, which were already known in Prussian times as “Gand Cru locations” and, in combination with the high mineral content of the soil, give our wines their unique character.
Joy, enjoyment, pleasure: our Pläsier line embodies all of this. These low-acid wines are perfect companions for a great mood, simply delicious, light and uncomplicated.
In various grape varieties we express the versatility of the Moselle terroir: a unique microclimate and mineral slate soils that produce the highest qualities.
Devon. Primitive rock. Gray slate. The mineral appeal of our slate cuvées is something special. Only Moselle Rieslings can offer such a multifaceted experience: fresh, mineral and exceptional.
Wines as unique as the terroir: matured to perfection, for maximum enjoyment. They come from our “Grand Cru sites” Neefer Frauenberg, Bremmer Calmont, Ediger Elzhofberg and Ediger Osterlämmchen.
This line contains our unusual, special cuvées, which are shaped by our long winemaking tradition and history - and our family, which has always followed atypical, creative paths.
